Beautiful bisque chest figurine made in the middle of the 20th century in France by Limoges.
This is a remarkable vintage porcelain bust of bisque by the young Alexandre Brongniart, crafted by Camille Tharaud.
The bust is based on an original by Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828).
The bust rests on a cobalt blue base with gold accents.
Given its age, a small trace of use may be present.
Alexandre Brongniart (1770-1847) was a prominent French mineralogist, geologist and palaeontologist. As director of the Sèvres porcelain factory (1800-1847), he revolutionized ceramic technology and ceramics. His scientific contributions include advances in geological dating and stratigraphy, in addition to his study of fossils.
