19th century Napoleon Tantalus "Baccarat - Betjemann’s "

Definition.

This beautiful Tantalus was created in the second part of the 19th century in France. The crystalwork is made by Baccarat.

The wooden holder is made by “Betjemann’s London”

The decanters are made of mouth-blown crystal. As a finish, these were given very fine diamond cuts.

The fine crystal and design are typical of the Baccarat crystal work.

The wooden box, in which everything is stored, is very sleek in design.

The lock is still usable and has the original key.

Unfortunately, there are a few small chips on the bottles, but because of the fine grinding, they are not noticeable.

Given its age, a small trace of wear may be present, as well as glass threads, air bubbles and imperfections are completely normal for handmade antique glassware.

Betjemann Patent Mechanisms

From 1859, based at 36, 38 & 40 Pentonville Road, London, George Betjemann and his two sons, George William Betjemann and John Betjemann, started to take the art of cabinet and box making to new creative heights. Under the business name of George Betjemann & Sons, they began to patent their innovative and ever-evolving designs and mechanisms. Specific to their range of ‘extending’ or ‘expanding’ dressing cases and boxes, there were two particularly impressive types of patented mechanism – the ‘Automatic’ mechanism and the ‘Angle-Wing’ mechanism.
