Rare Ruby red Dresden crystal vase.
Rare Ruby red Dresden crystal vase.
Definition.
This rare crystal vase is made at the middle of the 20th century in Germany, in the famous Crystal factory of Dresden.
She is made of mouth blown clear crystal, after which a layer of ruby red crystal is applied over it. During the finish, part of the red crystal is then cut away so that beautiful geometric figures appear. These, in turn, give a beautiful sparkle in the light.
This double crystal is typical of Val Saint Lambert, Baccarat and Bohemian glass artists as early as the end of the 19th century.
Artists from Bohemia often came to Baccarat and Val Saint Lambert to collaborate on new crystal works of art (vases, glasses, bowls,.....)
These well-known crystal houses therefore used lead-rich crystal. This means that a minimum of 33% lead oxide (PbO) is used, more than the legal 24%. This greatly improves the quality: the crystal can be processed more finely, the degree of brilliance is a lot greater and the crystal is clearer than ever.
This is an absolute masterpiece of glassware and crystal.
The vase has many decorative properties that we also see in the early 20th century crystal work by Val Saint Lambert and Baccarat.
Given its age, a small trace of wear may be present, as well as glass threads, air bubbles and imperfections are completely normal for handmade vintage glassware.
