4 French liqueur glasses anno 18th century
4 French liqueur glasses anno 18th century
Definition.
4 rare liqueur glasses made in the 18th century in France.
The glasses are made of very thick glass and also have a heavy bottom.
These glasses are made very unevenly, which is typical of glassware from the 18th century.
These glasses show a wonderfully rustic, handmade character, with its slightly uneven shapes and heights, and with air bubbles embedded in the clear lens.
On the underside of the pedestals you can see the pincer marks of the glassblower.
Please note:
These are completely handmade, so they can differ in size and weight. The shape is also not always perfectly the same.
The crystal at the 18th century was not yet as pure as what we know today.
In the 18th century, these liqueur glasses were mainly used to clink at a business or festive event.
Liquor were very expensive drinks, only the rich could afford it.
To further enhance their standing in the light of day, the glasses had to be filled to the brim.
This was also a sign of abundance.
Given its age, a small trace of wear may be present, as well as glass threads, air bubbles and imperfections are completely normal for handmade antique glassware.
