19th Century French Oil Lamp
19th Century French Oil Lamp
Definition.
Very nice large kerosene lamp, made in the 19th century in France by Legras.
This beautiful lamp is made of a combination of silver-plated metal, marble and crystal/glass.
The base is beautifully decorated with baroque elements, such as floral tendrils. This foot still has a nice silvering.
On the pedestal is a trunk in green marble and then the glass ball is reassembled with a silver-plated metal part.
This glass ball is made of mouth-blown glass, with a crystal content.
Finally, the lamp is finished at the top with a crystal glass that gives the fire more light effect.
Very nice item as decoration or to use as mood lighting.
At the bottom of the foot, the mark "DEPOSE" can be found. This sign was only allowed to be used in the 19th century by recognized glassworks such as, legras, baccarat, portieux, saint louis,.....
Given its age, a small trace of wear may be present, as well as glass threads, air bubbles and imperfections are completely normal for antique glassware over 100 years old.
