19th Century French Christmas carafe “Legras”
19th Century French Christmas carafe “Legras”
Definition.
Rare antique decanter, made in the late 19th century in a French glassworks.
Legras was one of the most famous glassworks that made bottles and decanters for French liqueur brands.
This carafe is made of mouth-blown glass in a wooden mold, with a crystal content to obtain a brighter color.
In the 19th century, glass and crystal were not as pure as what we know today.
The decanter is beautifully decorated with an enamel image of an Advent wreath.
Very rare to find a decanter with this Christmas decoration.
At the bottom of the bottle you can still clearly see the cut-off of the blowpipe.
Very nice unique item for the collectors.
Given its age, a small trace of wear may be present, as well as glass threads, air bubbles and imperfections are completely normal for handmade antique glassware.
