Crystal ashtray “Max Verboeket”
Crystal ashtray “Max Verboeket”
Definition.
Special crystal ashtray, made by the artist Max Verboeket in the Dutch crystal factory "Kristalunie Maastricht".
The ashtray has a very nice round shape of design with subtle color play of blue and purple continuous lines.
The artist Max Verboekt is a very well-known designer:
In the period 1954-1972 he was employed by the Kristalunie in Maastricht. He was the successor of Willem Jacob Rozendaal.
Verboeket has designed a number of different glasswares. The glass service "Carnival", which was introduced in 1956, was the most successful. In 1958, Verboeket received the Signe d'Or Industriel, the gold medal of the Brussels Expo 58 for his "Bouquet" glass service. In the 1960s, designs for vases and bowls became increasingly whimsical in shape and colour. The capriciousness reached its peak in the series "crystal unions".
In 1969 Verboeket became a teacher at the City Academy of Applied Arts in Maastricht (Academy of Visual Arts). Three years later, he resigned from the Kristalunie, after that company had merged with the Vereenigde Glasfabrieken and switched more and more to the manufacture of industrial (packaging) glass.
The ashtray is drawn at the bottom by the artist.
The ashtray itself has signs of wear, which is normal for a mid-20th century utensil.
Given its age, a small trace of wear may be present, as well as glass threads, air bubbles and imperfections are completely normal for handmade antique glassware.
