Rare French blue mouth-blown carafe
Rare French blue mouth-blown carafe
Definition.
Very rare carafe in mouth-blown blue glass, with a crystal content to achieve a more beautiful shine.
The carafe is blown into a mold.
In the mid-19th century, this technique was well known in the bottle productions of Legras.
But the technique was used much earlier, at the end of the 18th century
It was not until 1800 that cut glass was used for the first time. This carafe is very similar to the first Tulip glasses we know from Le Creusot.
At the bottom you can see the cut-off of the blowpipe.
It was probably made by "Le Creusot" at the end of the 18th century. Le Creusot was one of the largest glass producers at the time.
From 1830 these were split into Baccarat, Saint. Louis.....
Given its age, a small trace of wear may be present, as well as glass threads, air bubbles and imperfections are completely normal for handmade antique glassware.
