19th Century French Oil Lamp
19th Century French Oil Lamp
Definition.
Very beautiful kerosene lamp, made in the 19th century in France by one of the well-known crystal blowers, such as Baccarat, Portieux.
This beautiful lamp is made of a combination of gold-plated metal, copper and crystal/glass.
The base is beautifully decorated with baroque elements, such as flower tendrils.
The base of the lamp is made of metal and has a gold gilding, which has acquired a lived patina over time.
This glass ball is made of mouth-blown crystal. After blowing, olive shapes were cut all around. These forms are mainly found in Baccart and Val Saint Lambert crystals from the 19th century.
Finally, the lamp is finished at the top with a crystal glass that gives the fire more light effect.
The fitting for the wick is made of copper, unfortunately it has a small crack.
Very nice item as decoration or to use as mood lighting.
On the underside of the foot is the mark "DEPOSE". This characteristic was only used in the 19th century by the recognized glassworks such as Legras, Baccarat, Portieux, Saint Louis,.....
Given its age, a small trace of wear may be present, as well as glass threads, air bubbles and imperfections are completely normal for antique glassware over 100 years old.
